What we do

Full-service auto repair, done right.

From a routine oil change to a check-engine mystery, The Car Doc and crew handle the whole car. All makes and models — gas, hybrid and diesel, foreign and domestic. The only thing we don't tackle is the diesel engine itself — everything else on a diesel, we've got.

Diagnostics & Check-Engine

That light could be a loose gas cap or a failing sensor. We use proper scan tools plus decades of hands-on know-how to find the real cause — not just clear the code. Tricky electrical issues can take real diagnostic time, so a diagnostic fee applies — always explained up front.

  • Check-engine & warning lights
  • Drivability — stalling, misfires, rough idle
  • Electrical & sensor diagnosis

Engine & Drivetrain

Keep it running strong. Tune-ups, timing, leaks, belts and hoses, and general engine and drivetrain repair for daily drivers and weekend cruisers alike.

  • Tune-ups & timing
  • Belts, hoses & gaskets
  • Oil & fluid leak repair

Brakes, Suspension & Steering

Stop and handle the way you should. Pads, rotors, lines, shocks, struts, and steering — plus honest advice on what actually needs doing now.

  • Brake pads, rotors & lines
  • Shocks, struts & suspension
  • Steering & alignment checks

A/C, Heating & Electrical

Cold air in the Arkansas summer and heat when you need it. We chase down charging issues and wiring gremlins, too.

  • A/C recharge & repair
  • Heating & cooling system
  • Batteries, alternators, starters & wiring

Tires & Routine Maintenance

The boring stuff that prevents the expensive stuff. Stay ahead of trouble with scheduled service and tire care.

  • Oil, filters & fluids
  • Mount, balance & rotation
  • Factory-schedule maintenance

Pre-Purchase Inspections

Thinking about buying a used car or truck? An hour in our bay can save you thousands. We'll tell you straight what it really needs.

  • Top-to-bottom mechanical check
  • Honest "buy / walk away" advice
  • Written list of what it needs

Don't see your problem listed? If it's got wheels, bring it by — brakes, A/C, electrical, suspension, you name it. The only thing we don't tackle is the diesel engine itself. You get it here, we'll fix it.

Our work

Four decades of cars, fixed right.

Real cars and trucks Bill has brought back to life. The neon’s on — the doctor’s in.

Meet Bill & the crew

Owner-run, family-strong.

The Car Doc is owned and run by Bill Brey, an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician with more than four decades under the hood. But Bill doesn't carry it alone — he's built a tight crew he mentors himself: his sons Alex and Nick, plus technician Rosco. The whole team keeps up with ongoing classes to stay current, so the shop is just as sharp on a modern computer-controlled engine as it is on a classic.

It's a real family operation: friendly faces, a clean and squared-away shop, and four people who take pride in getting it right. The moment your car rolls in, it's in good hands.

“You get it here, we'll fix it.” — Bill Brey

Word around town

What folks say.

“Wonderful work! Dependable advice, trustworthy service and fair pricing. The whole Brey Family are genuinely great people! I recommend and will return with my next vehicle need. Thank you for everything!”— Cora Peterson, Google review
“Bill is a wonderful mechanic… and his sons Alex and Nick are great! I've always had great service here! Bill finds the problem and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg! The vehicle is always ready to pick up when he says it will be. A great place to get your vehicle serviced. Thanks Bill!”— Jim Servais, Google review
“If you want your car fixed — and the truth — go to these guys. Bill is amazing, and Nick, Alex, and Rosco are the best.”— Mackenzie Burns, Google review
“Bill is a mechanical savant. He runs the most ethical and honest car repair business I have ever encountered. The turnaround may be slower than expected — probably because he's a genuinely nice man and takes time with walk-ins like me. My problem was complicated and I had to leave it for a week or so. Nevertheless, the job was done well at a fair and reasonable price. I have finally found a mechanic I am completely confident recommending to my friends and family.”— Clark Robbins, Google review
“I thought I had a transmission going out. I called Bill and explained the problem. He said he thought it may be the filter and to bring it in. I had the car towed to the shop and the next day he called and said it was ready to go — the issue was just as he said. Great service, professional experience! Highly recommended.”— David Moore, Google review
“My alternator went out and Car Doc had me up and running within an hour with a brand new alternator. I've used many mechanics, and out of all of them, Car Doc is absolutely the best around. Amazing service and great people — trustworthy, reliable, respectful, all around 5 stars. I will definitely be using y'all again!”— Michael Davis, Google review
“Bill is a great guy! He treats me and my husband so well and helped my husband get the AC in his truck working. A very honest man. It's hard to find good and honest mechanics nowadays. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.”— Olivia, Google review
“Have been a happy customer for years. They work hard to get the job done and a fair price.”— Karl L.
“Very professional and doing a great job without wanting to charge for extras not needed. Van drives beautifully!”— Cheryl Z.
“Great service, great people.”— Dylan W.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

What vehicles do you work on?

All makes and models — foreign and domestic, cars and trucks, gas, hybrid and diesel. On a diesel we handle everything — brakes, A/C, electrical, suspension and more; the only thing we don't tackle is the diesel engine itself.

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are preferred, but not a must. Easiest thing is to just run it by us — call (501) 463-0141 or bring it in, let us take a look, and we'll tell you when we can get it in. Calling ahead just helps us get you scheduled a little faster.

How much will my repair cost?

Fair, honest pricing — every time. We diagnose the problem and give you a clear, up-front quote before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the final bill.

One honest note: some problems — squirrely electrical gremlins especially — can take more time to find than they do to fix. That diagnostic time is real work, so a diagnostic fee applies. We'll always tell you straight, up front.

Who actually works on my car?

Owner Bill Brey — an ASE Certified Master Technician with 41+ years — and his trained crew — his sons Alex and Nick, plus technician Rosco — all mentored by Bill and training continually. Whoever's on your car, Bill stands behind the work.

My check-engine light is on — is it safe to drive?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A steady light is usually less urgent than a flashing one. Either way, bring it in and we'll tell you straight.

Where are you and what are your hours?

9467 Park Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71901. Open Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
