Buying a used car? Get a pre-purchase inspection first

A used car can be a great deal — or somebody else’s problem dressed up clean. The single best money you can spend before you buy is an hour of a good mechanic’s time. Here’s why, and what we look for.

What a pre-purchase inspection is

You bring us the car (or we arrange to look at it) before you buy it. We put it up, go through it top to bottom, and give you a straight rundown: what’s good, what needs attention soon, and what would scare us off. Then you decide — with your eyes open.

What we check

Red flags that mean walk away

Some problems are just bargaining chips. Others mean run:

The math is simple

An inspection costs a little. The transmission you didn’t know about costs a lot. We’ve watched that hour save people thousands, and we’ve watched folks skip it and wish they hadn’t. If you’re looking at something, bring it by — we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a good buy or a money pit.

Not sure? Just ask.

Looking at a used car or truck? Bring it by before you sign. An hour now can save you thousands later.
